Louise Stebbings - Impressions
Impressions is the title of the exhibition, by award-winning printmaker Louise Stebbing, at the Angles Theatre Wisbech. Curated by Atelier East Impressions includes a selection of local Wisbech scenes and a series of linocuts of musicians.
Louise Stebbing is an experienced artist/printmaker, born in Tydd, Cambs, she attended an Art Foundation Course in Cambridge. Louise then gained a BA(Hons) Fine Art Painting & Printmaking Degree at Sheffield University before going on to complete a Postgraduate course in Printmaking at Camberwell School of Art in London. Louise returned to Tydd in 1992 after 14 years away training and working. In 1993 she renovated the barn which is now Skylark Studios.
Louise uses a variety of printmaking techniques – mainly etching, linoprinting and screenprinting. Her imagery is based on subjects she observes from her local surroundings, and places she has visited. Her etchings are atmospheric, and her screenprints and linocuts bright and colourful.
“My work explores more than one theme and I don’t restrict myself to any one medium as I consider it important to be flexible when being creative. I often use traditional techniques & processes but I am experimental within these,” says Louise.
Having exhibited extensively throughout the UK and won prizes for her prints, in 1999 Louise won the “Best Print in the Show” at the Eastern Open in Kings Lynn and just last year she won the title of “Artist of the Fens” at an exhibition in Spalding. In 2006 Louise was to be included in the new edition of “Artists in Britain Since 1945” by David Buckman.
