Wisbech Photographic Festival 22-25 May 2009
Welcome to the first Wisbech Photographic Festival. This weekend we celebrate the town’s historic connection with the photographic world. Lectures and exhibitions feature the pioneering work of Samuel Smith, one of the earliest topographic photographers and the work of Lilian Ream, whose thousands of photographs from the early to mid 1900’s form a unique social record of the life of the town.
The weekend will be launched by Antony Penrose, son of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose - the Peckover descendant and friend of Picasso who founded London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, free events including workshops and exhibitions by local contemporary photographers, compliment this celebration of the town’s photographic heritage.
The Wisbech Photographic Festival is organised by Atelier East and Octavia Hill’s Birthplace Museum Trust, funded by Roddons Housing Association and supported by Fenland District Council, Wisbech Tourism Development Group, WisARD, Total Image Nation and the Trustees of Wisbech and Fenland Museum.
