Youth Club art sessions at Murrow & Parson Drove
Young People at Murrow and Parson Drove Youth Club’s worked with Atelier East artist Karen Harvey on a variety of arty activities! Starting with a project that asked the young people to take inspiration from the things they felt strongly about in their own lives, they worked together to create sculptors, textile pieces, paintings and more. The young people also worked on improving drawing skills through learning to look at common objects from a different perspective and designed and decorated cotton bags.
Lots of amazing work was created and will be exhibited at the village halls where the Youth Clubs meet.
Here are some of the nice things they said about us, and, before you ask, they didn’t say anything bad!
‘It was very educational in a really fun way and great way to relax.’ Grainne
‘On this project I leant that you can fix anything that has gone wrong. Sometimes it was so fun I forgot about everything.’ Josephine
‘I found the work really interesting because there are so many different ways to show your feelings through art and it doesn’t matter what you draw it can always mean something.’ Anon
‘It is better here than school because we get a choice of what to draw but at school we don’t, we have to do what they tell us to do. This is more interesting.’ Sophie
‘I found it really interesting because I thought more about my feelings and emotions.’ Kayleigh
‘I‘m really happy about my work and I was not that interested in art until now.’ Courtney
‘The young people were amazed how something so simple could be so interesting, like drawing a piece of fruit. I thought Karen was great, she had great use of resources and ideas. The main thing is to keep the young people interested and entertained and she certainly did this.’ Fiona McIntyre, Youth Worker
‘The young people that I spoke to found Karen incredibly friendly and approachable and they really enjoyed working with her. It was great to see them focused on something and trying new skills they had not done before. The sessions also have helped myself and the team with future ideas of how to incorporate arts
and crafts into sessions. Thank you!’ Laura Burgess, Lead Youth Worker.
