Creative Club - Food
Primary Schools across Fenland have enjoyed working on a creative art project exploring the theme of food. They have created some fantastic pieces of artwork using mostly recycled materials during the Young Artists after-school sessions, run by Atelier East.
The project encouraged Young Artists to explore the theme of food, they looked further than their own plate and explored ideas such as catching or growing your own food, running a restaurant and being environmentally aware!
Mrs Jones, Arts Co-ordinator for Westwood Community Primary said “What a wonderful learning experience this is. The children are able to be freely creative and they benefit from the experience.”
The Young Artists created a variety of wonderful artworks including a family of ‘chocolate’ bunnies, a fast food restaurant, a seafood mobile and a yummy worm stew! They also learnt to use bread to create food inspired sculptures!
Parents, families, friends and teachers joined the Young Artists for special exhibitions across Fenland where they shared their creations, talked about the work they’ve been doing and enjoyed some party food and drink!
Here’s some feedback from our Young Artists:
‘I made a pig bread sculpture and fruit people from pine cones, tissue paper, straws. I drew Sally the Bacon woman – I remembered someone drew bacon when thinking about food ideas. It was a man but now it’s a woman.’ - Olivia
‘We’ve been making arty stuff, my best one was a chocolate spider. The best thing about Creative Club is having friends here.’ - Jake
‘It’s the funnest after school club ever.’ - Jack B
‘Some places run out of stuff, but there’s always stuff at Art Club to use! .’ - Macauley
‘I worked with Lianne and we made a mini sweetie land. We have three chocolate bunnies, a baby in a blanket, a daddy
with a fluffy tie and a mummy toffee and chocolate bunny with a ribbon round her neck.’ - Freya
‘Really really happy about this – it’s the best thing I’ve ever done after school.’ Lianne
‘I made a fish tank because I wanted to. People eat fish, it wouldn’t be really yummy because its made out of cardboard.’ - Jack
